New Car & Weekend Hike!

We are now officially renting a light pink Toyota Vitz! It's one of the smallest cars you can get here, and the cheapest to lease. After not having a car for over a year, we felt that it's time for a change of pace! We may not use it all the time, but after Baby Schreurs arrives, it will be helpful for grocery shopping and traveling.

We tested the car out for our first day trip this past weekend. We went to Kiso Valley, about an hour away from Nagoya, to see two old towns (Magome and Tsumago) and hike the 8-km trail between them. The route runs along the Kiso Valley and are part of the original route that connected Tokyo with Kyoto during the Edo Period.

The trail leads through the countryside and passes right alongside houses and fields with local residents. The beginning of the hike was tough, as it was all uphill. But once we reached the peak, it was all downhill and much more enjoyable. It was nice to get out of the city for a day! It was a beautiful day, and a beautiful hike.

  1. love the new car - when you said it was pink I had imagined a cotton candy sort of pink (color isn't bad at all)

very impressed that you are hiking all over the place as far along as you are Em - way to go!

  2. How did you go back to the parking of your car at Tsumago or Magome? By Bus?
Anyway, Toyota-Vitz is really eco-friendly car and saves you most expensive GAS! And Joe looks so BIG!!:*)

Don't miss Thai Festival in Sakae next week, 27th(Sat) and 28th(Sun) May!

  3. Yes, I was hoping for a brighter pink - seems like if we're going to do a pink car, we might as well go all out and have a cotton candy pink or fuchsia!

Nagoyan - We parked at Magome, hiked the trail, and then took a bus back to Magome from Tsumago.
